The family announces with sorrow the passing of Pierre “Pete” Brais on Saturday, 23 September 2023, at Health Sciences North in Sudbury. Son of the late Napoleon and Marie-Blanche (nee Goupil) Brais. Beloved husband of the late Alice Brais (nee Pitre), pre-deceased in 2009. Loving father of Richard Mutas (Lisa), Charmaine Brais, Paul Brais (Jean), Guy Brais (Christa), Alain Brais, Brigitte Brais, Louise Brais (Gilles) and stepchildren Daniel Monette (Irene), Louise Monette (Dale) and Roger Monette (Angele). Predeceased by one daughter Louise. Beloved brother of Françoise Bourbeau (Pierre), Huguette Ivany (Gord), Hubert Brais and the late Raymond, Marie-Joseph and Marie-Paule. Lovingly remembered by 16 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Pierre served in the Royal Canadian Navy and was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 553 in Chelmsford. He was devoted to both the Legion veterans as well as the seniors of the community. He enjoyed marching in the Legion Color Party and loved attending schools and various functions for Remembrance Day ceremonies. He served on the executive board in various positions, including the Branch President. Pierre was on the Board of Directors for Whitewater in Azilda for numerous years. He was an avid Montréal Canadiens and Blue Jays fan and could often be heard yelling and cheering them on. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing cards and listening to country music.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Health Sciences North, with a special thank you to his VA Nurse, Kelly.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Donations can be made to a charity of choice.
