Obituary
Niklaus Schori, age 78, of Stratford and formerly of lot 29 concession 2 of Ellice Twp. passed away peacefully at home on October 21, 2023. Born in Bumplitz, Switzerland, son of the late Rudolf and Marie Schori. Beloved husband for 55 years of Linda (Millard). Loving father of Andrew (Donna), Adam (Jennifer), Susan (Jim Brown). Grandfather of Niklaus, Elizabeth, David, Isabelle, Madeline, Benjamin, Sarah, Matthew and Rachel. Brother of Anton (Edith) and Silvia Lavoie (Serge).
Nik attended Seebach’s Hill primary school and Mitchell and District High School where he was an accomplished academic and athlete. While attending Guelph University and earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, he continued his wrestling. He won many accolades including a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, a bronze medal at the Pan American Games and participated in many Canadian and World Championships. He was inducted into the University of Guelph’s Hall of Fame in 1986.
After graduating, he had a veterinary practice in Mitchell followed by a career as the District Veterinarian for the Federal Government, in Waterloo County.
During his lifetime he made many friends in his involvement as a member of the 4H, Swiss, Probus and Field Naturalists clubs. He had a lifelong love of travelling, enjoyed farming, rural life, canoeing and spending time with friends and family.
He will be missed.
A celebration of Nik’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
