Henry Molenhuis Obituary
Henry (Hendrikus) Molenhuis passed on October 16, 2024 at the age of 91. He was a gentle and witty husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Hendrikus was born on July 13, 1933, in Doezum, Groningen, the Netherlands. He lived on the family farm near Doezum before he came to Canada the first time in 1952. He returned to Holland in 1955 whereupon he met his wife to be Audrey and convinced her to follow him and come to Canada. They were married on May 1, 1959 in Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay). They were married for 65 years this year. Together, they raised 3 sons, Henri, Richard, and Dave.
Henry was a gentle quiet man of faith, who modelled a life of service, not only in his work or volunteerism, but in caring for his wife who suffered from dementia the last years of her life. Henry was one of the initial drivers of the mobility bus service in Stratford. He always had a roll of peppermints in his pocket to share, enjoyed reading, crosswords, tinkering in the garage or volunteering at Spruce Lodge, or with various programs at the church, or visiting people who were shut-ins. Coffee and teatime were sacred. Henry and Audrey made trips to Tim Hortons daily (sometimes twice) , quite often with grandkids in tow, or took their coffee and sat by the river
Henry was predeceased by his wife Audrey, his parents Hendrik and Aaltje Molenhuis, siblings Emgert (Bert), Eiko, Hilbrandt, and Alida
Dad is survived by his sons, Henri (Susan), Richard and Dave, grandchildren, Jessica, Julie, Jeff, Allan, Graham, Katie, Meagan, Felicia, Mikel, Raina, and Daniel, as well as many great grandchildren and his sister Diny Molenhuis in the Netherlands.
Henry’s memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. at the Stratford Christian Reformed Church,190 Athlone Cres, Stratford, N4Z1H9
