Obituary of Patricia Cameron
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Patricia “Che” Anne Cameron, who peacefully left us on November 28, 2024, at Emmanuel House Hospice, surrounded by her loving family, after a brave battle with cancer. Patricia was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, on March 18, 1956.
Patricia was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Joseph Duyvestyn. She leaves behind her cherished children, Kristy (Mark) Hamilton, John (Melissa) Cameron, Chris (Sue) Duyvestyn, Glenn (Virginia) Duyvestyn, and Corey (Yuki) Duyvestyn. Patricia was a proud and loving Nannie/Oma to her grandchildren: Gillian, Liam, Ashlyn, Ewan, Lilly, Nathan, Katelyn, Branden, Rachel, Lucian, and Kai, who brought her immense joy and love.
Patricia had a long and rewarding career as a retired electronic technician at Nortel. However, her true passion was always found in her dedication to serving others. She was a tireless advocate for those with disabilities, and her commitment to her community was evident in her work as the president of the Hamilton Steel City Wheelers, an adaptive dance group, for over 30 years. Her devotion to helping others was recognized in 2024 when she was honored with the Order of Hamilton for lifetime achievement as a disability advocate.
The family extends special thanks to the home palliative care team, St. Joseph Home Health Care, the palliative nurses Bernadette and Sharon, and family physician Dr. Jason Profetto for their compassionate care and unwavering support, which allowed Patricia to remain at home while honoring her palliative care goals.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 9th, at 11:00 a.m. at Cheyne Presbyterian Church, 7 King St. W., Stoney Creek. All are welcome to join the family in celebrating Patricia’s remarkable life and legacy. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to Spinal Cord Injury Ontario (Hamilton) or The Hamilton Steel City Wheelers would be greatly appreciated by the family.
Patricia’s kindness, strength, and service to others will be forever remembered, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
