Lucille Menzel MacDonald (neé Williams) March 23, 1925 – November 24, 2023
It is with deep sadness but also with a sense of peace that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother & GG at the age of 98. After a long and full life, she died peacefully on November 24, 2023 at Wentworth Lodge in Dundas, ON.
Born on March 23, 1925 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Lucille was a true “Southern Belle” and all who knew her would agree. During WWII, her husband, the late Donald Edward (Ted) MacDonald (November 1998) was stationed with the RCAF in Elizabeth City, billeting in the Williams’ home. He met Lucille and they fell in love, marrying on November 25, 1944. They then moved to Regina, Saskatchewan to start their married life. From there, they were blessed with 2 daughters, Linda Byers of Cambridge, ON and Cathy Ralph (Greg Brill), of Burlington, ON. A few years later the grandchildren began to come along, adding Christopher Ralph (Jamie) of Brantford; Michelle McAlpine (Steve) of Cambridge; Scott Ralph (Sarah) of Sugar Land, Texas; and Michael Byers (Jessica) of Hamilton, ON who eventually presented them with 8 great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
Family was always very important to Lucille and she regularly joined in family gatherings where ALL the kids would attend and have some fun. The countless memories made will sustain our family for years to come. Eventually, Lucille moved into Wentworth Lodge, a Long-term care facility in Dundas, Ontario where she spent the last 71/2 years of her life, surrounded by an extraordinary staff group and regular visits from her family. Words cannot express our gratitude to all the staff for their constant love, compassion and dedication to our mother through these years. Mom was treated with great respect and love right to the end and we couldn’t be more grateful.
Lucille’s Southern charm, sense of humour and excellent story-telling skills will be exceedingly missed by all who knew her, including her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, her brother & sister-in-law, Webb & Sylvia Williams and her 2 nephews, Craig (Penny) & Gill Williams. Regardless, she is with God and the angels now, no doubt continuing to regale them with her stories and dancing again with her handsome Canadian RCAF love!
Cremation has taken place and internment will be at White Chapel Cemetery in Hamilton at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a charity of your choice.
