Obituary of Mary Julia Tufts
Mary Julia Tufts, born June 21, 1927, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024, in Stratford General Hospital.
In December 2023, she had moved from the Fairhill Residence in St. Marys to West Perth Village in Mitchell. The beloved wife of Ross Tufts, Mary grew up on a farm near Motherwell. She graduated from the Stratford Normal School (teachers college) in 1945 and taught in Perth County elementary schools until her retirement in 1984. She and Ross farmed near Kirkton until December 2006, when they moved to St. Marys. They were members of Kirkton United Church and she was also a member of the Kirkton Horticultural Society.
Mary will be missed by sister-in-law Norma McIntyre, of London, brother-in-law Pat Sebben of Carlingford, and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her husband (in 2010),
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Russella and James Brown; sisters Ruth Parsons of Oakville, Jean Sebben of Carlingford and Christine Hearn of Lucan; brothers Roger, Jack and Bill Brown; brothers-in-law Ivan Hearn, John Parsons, Edwin Tufts, Leroy Tufts, Lorraine (Chink) Funnell, Gil McIntyre and Bill Moore; and sisters-in-law Mary Brown, Irene Brown, Marion Funnell and Ruth Tufts.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be conducted at the ST. MARYS UNITED CHURCH, 85 Church St. South, St. Marys, on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024 at 1:30 pm. A reception will follow in the church hall. Spring burial with a private interment service in Kirkton Union Cemetery.
