It is with profound sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of Margaret Catharine “Cathy” Teshima on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at the age of 83, surrounded by the love of her family. Cathy was the beloved wife of 62 years to Ken Teshima. Cherished mother of Dawn (Don Nesbitt) and Kellie (Mike Lopinski). Devoted Nana to Brooke Nesbitt (Daniel Lalonde), Taylor Nesbitt (Dylan Lamothe), Aidan Lopinski and Matthew Lopinski. Cathy will be deeply missed by her brother Peter Moar (the late Lorraine), her sister and best friend Jane Reaburn, her sister-in-law Kay Atkinson (Bill) and her cousin Susan Thrush. Her loving nieces and nephews, many wonderful friends and helpful neighbours will also mourn her passing.
Cathy was born and raised in St. Catharines. While teaching at Scottlea School, she met Ken and they later married, starting their family. When her daughters were young, Cathy was a stay-at-home mom who was also working as an occasional teacher. She was a life-long member of Grantham United Church, now Trillium United, where she volunteered in many capacities throughout the years. Cathy was also a dedicated volunteer for over 30 years at the St. Catharines Museum.
Cathy’s talents and interests were many- from baking the best pies and shortbread cookies, to enjoying performances with her theatre group, to sewing, crocheting, reading, needlepoint, and seasonal decorating of her home. Her acts of kindness and generosity to others were also her special gifts.
Together Cathy and Ken enjoyed travelling. They visited Bahamas and Barbados, cruised to Alaska and Hawaii, visited Cuba many times, and camped across Canada and the US. However, Cathy’s favourite trips were the March Breaks spent in Myrtle Beach or Florida with her daughters and eventually their families. She loved family time the best.
Cathy’s legacy of family and kindness will be etched in our hearts forever.
We wish to thank the doctors, staff and volunteers at the Walker and Juravinski Cancer Centres for their compassionate care over the past 5 years, especially Dr. Levesque. Cathy was always so appreciative of their kindness and care.
As per Cathy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and arrangements entrusted to PASSFIELD MORTUARY SERVICES INC. 905 682 0474. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
If so desired, as an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Rankin Cancer Run or the Walker Cancer Centre are appreciated by the family.
“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”
