It is with profound sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Kenneth W. Decker on November 24, 2024, at the age of 69, at his home in St. Catharines, Ontario. Ken leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and a life well-lived.
A devoted husband to his beloved wife, Nancy Harman, Ken was a proud father to Christine (Alex). Stepfather to Jenny (Paul), Jake, and Ryan (Lucy). Brother to Evelyn (Marcel predeceased), Ed (Uta), Dorothy (Bob). Beloved Son-in-Law to Betty, Gloria and Bill (predeceased). Brother-in-law to Scott (Laura) and Cathy (Jim). A fun loving Uncle to all his very special nieces and nephews and a cherished grandfather to Charlie and Elliot.
He is predeceased by his parents Edward and Florence (nee Cardinal)
Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Ken’s early years were shaped by his love for the outdoors, particularly spending time on the lake at his cherished camp. His passion for boats, rooted in his upbringing, led him to a lifetime of buying and selling, and was especially fond of his wooden boats.
An accomplished entrepreneur, Ken fearlessly pursued business ventures that took him across the globe, showcasing his determination and adventurous spirit. A pilot, scuba diver, and ship captain, Ken’s thirst for life was evident in his diverse accomplishments.
Ken faced health challenges with incredible resilience, surviving a heart attack and conquering cancer and living with IPF. His big heart and compassionate nature endeared him to everyone he encountered, leaving an indelible mark on those who were fortunate enough to know him.
With a magnetic personality and a crazy sense of humour, Ken cultivated lifelong friendships that spanned decades. His love for his family was boundless, and his enduring legacy will be remembered by all who were touched by his warmth and generosity.
In accordance with Ken’s wishes, there will be no funeral. There will be a celebration of life at a later date. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to IPF, Heart and Stroke or Health Sciences North in his honour. Ken’s spirit will live on in the memories of those he touched, and he will be profoundly missed by family and friends alike.
