Ernest “Mark” Pierce of St. Catharines, Ontario, passed away surrounded by family on Friday January 12, 2024 at the age of 68. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick on February 14, 1944, he was the son of the late Ernie and Jean (Parker) Pierce.
Mark is survived by their children, son Corey (Nicole) Pierce, his daughters Katie and Brittany (Doug) Pierce; son Adam McArthur, two sisters, Bonnie (Bob) Purdy and Lois (Barry) Moore; grandchildren Rowan, Isabelle and Audrey; numerous nieces and nephews, dog Ernie, and lifelong best friend Steven (Ruth) Brown. Along with Mark’s parents and wife, he is pre-deceased by his beloved cousin Beverly Ann Higgins and dogs Max and Buddy.
Mark graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1978 for biology and sociology with further studies in chemistry. It was during this time that he met his wife of 32 years, Deborah (Crozier), who passed away in 2015. A lifelong learner, Mark developed many skills working in maintenance and home construction before settling into a long and respected career in the energy industry with Petro-Canada, for whom he worked until his retirement.
Mark remained inquisitive to the very end, enjoying books on economic and social philosophy, exploring parks, forests and beaches, including the St. Martins shores and caves on the Bay of Fundy where he kept a cottage. His greatest joys though came from spending time with family, both immediate, extended and adopted, who will remember his generous heart and sense of humour.
A celebration of life for Mark will be held at a future date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Passfield Mortuary Services Inc. In lieu of flowers, the family requests either physical or monetary donations to Canadian Blood Services.”
