Obituary of Betty Ann Justesen
Betty Ann Justesen
Sept. 20, 1938 – July 19, 2024
Betty (Cochran) Justesen passed away at her home in St. Catharines on Friday, July 19, 2024, at the age of 85 years. Born in Ridgetown, Ontario to the late Dorothy Ward and John Cochran. Betty will be greatly missed by Stan, her husband of 57 years, daughter Sonja (Upton), son-in-law Kyle, grandchildren Kieran and Skye and her sister Susan, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister Janet McLaren (Dec 2019) and brother Andy Cochran (Jan 2023). Betty graduated from London Teacher’s College in 1958 and headed straight to Niagara Falls to teach her first Kindergarten class at the age of 19. She was a teacher for the Niagara South Board of Education for another 36 years, primarily at John Marshall School. She enjoyed traveling and had camped across Canada from coast to coast. A lifelong learner, she returned to school to complete a degree in Political Science at Brock University in 1973, attending her first classes in a refurbished refrigeration factory at the foot of the escarpment. In her latter years, she spent much of her time reading and rarely missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy. A private service will be held at Victoria Lawn Cemetery.
