To say Andy lived a rewarding life is an understatement. Moving forward, he went back to school at 25 to finish grade 13 before he attended Wilfrid Laurier University obtaining his BA (1962) and then onto University of Waterloo graduating with his MA In Psychology (1966). He also went on to graduate with a Master of Education in philosophy from the University of Ottawa. During his career he held positions in the Waterloo Board of Education as a high school counsellor; Hamilton and Renfrew Boards of Education as Psychological Consultant; North York Board of Education as a Diagnostician assessing learning disabilities and developing remedial programs for their amelioration. He was the director of Peel-Humber Special Development Centre for children from ages 2-16 whom had varying levels of physical and mental disabilities. After retirement, he went on to work for Children’s Aid Society of Hamilton-Wentworth as a Social Worker in the adolescent unit. Over the years Andy had more than 100 published articles containing issues on Failure and Labelling of young students, Working with Adolescents, School Dropouts, Alcohol Abuse and many more. He also was the author of a couple of books. Additionally,
Andy and Madeleine owned and operated the Harding Hotel on James St. from the mid 70’s until the late 80’s. As keeping with Andrew’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to PASSFIELD MORTUARY SERVICES INC., 905-682-0474. A private family interment will be held at a later date. If desired, donations to your local Children’s Aid Services or Parkinson’s Disease Foundation in Andy’s memory would be appreciated by his family.
