SKAGEN, Lorraine
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Skagen (nee McLean), peacefully on January 10, 2024, at Sault Area Hospital with family by her side.
She was born on December 23, 1939, to the late Edward McLean and late Cecile Thibeault in Sudbury. Sister of the late Donald McLean, Larry McLean of Lively, Doreen Lajeunesse of Sturgeon Falls, and the late Lucille Jones.
Lorraine married the late Robert Dennie on December 26, 1957, and they had 3 children, the late Rick Dennie, Thomas Dennie of Sault Ste. Marie, and the late Robert Dennie Jr.. Robert Sr sadly passed away in 1981. She remarried the late Charles Skagen on July 2, 1984, and was proud to welcome his children into her life, Randy (Robin) Skagen of Tuscaloosa Alabama, the late David Skagen, Lori (Dino) Cuglietta of Sault Ste. Marie, and Cory (Sandra) Skagen of Sault Ste. Marie.
Survived by her grandchildren Ryan Skagen, Nicholas Skagen, Alison Dennie, Paige Dennie, Noah Dennie, Jackson Dennie, Angie Cuglietta, Azure-Dey Charette, and great-grandchildren Dawn, Anthony, Annabella, James, and Alek.
She was always very proud of her two families.
She worked as a sales consultant for Sears Catalog for many years, and later as a mental health worker with Phoenix Rising Women’s Centre and ran a support group for survivors of bi-polar disorder. She wanted everyone to remember her for being a survivor and living as independently as she could, and if she had to do it all over again, she wouldn’t change anything as she had no regrets.
Some of her favorite things included listening to the radio, shopping, dancing, and socializing with her very good friend Dian Acciavatti, especially at the Moose Lodge.
The family would like to thank the Sault area Hospital emergency department nurses and doctors, and especially nurses Joanne, Ashley, and Shania on 3B, and Dr. Fera.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to Phoenix Rising Women’s Centre, the Canadian Mental Health Association, or the Canadian Cancer Society. Payable by cheque or online.
Footprints in the Sand
One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You’d walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me.”
He whispered, “My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you.”
