Peacefully, on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Albany Retirement Village, Roy Cecil Cooper passed away at the age of 89. Beloved husband of the late Shirley Cooper (Sheffer). Loving and treasured father of Beverly Wright, Stephen Cooper (Elizabeth) and Sandy Berry (David). Cherished grandfather of Greg Wright (Kim), Jenny Major, Holly MacRitchie (Cory), Graham Cooper (Katherine), Joshua Cooper, Leanna Berry and Thomas Berry. Roy was proud to have been blessed with eight great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents George and Alma Cooper, and by his siblings Marie Duncan (Jack), Lawrence Cooper, Robert Cooper (Shirley) and Diane Dempsey (Carmen). Brother in-law of Marion Ford (John) and Evelyn Japp (Rae), and survived by many nieces and nephews. Roy was a farmer, welder, woodworker, and skilled tradesman. Growing up in Brook Township, his first home was in Oil City with his wife Shirley. In 1971, they moved to the Cooper family farm near Wanstead, where he loved to welcome family, friends and neighbours to play cards and horseshoes. Roy had a deep knowledge and appreciation of Lambton County’s history and the people that lived there. Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Friday, July 5, 2024, for visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with a funeral service commencing at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Watford. Sympathy may be expressed through donations of your choosing. (cheques only at the funeral home please).
