Peacefully and courageously surrounded by her family, Anka Jeremic (née Vasic) passed away on November 9, 2024, in her 94th year. The youngest of three children, Anka grew up on a small farm in Yugoslavia with her parents and siblings. This is where she learned to love cooking, baking, gardening and the importance of family. While she had little formal schooling, she was an avid learner. Fluent in Serbian she taught herself to converse in both German and English among many other skills. She could swing a hammer with the best of them! As a young child Anka endured many hardships; separation from family and heartbreaking loss during World War 2. Despite the many challenges she faced, she lived life to the fullest. While working in Belgrade, Yugoslavia she caught Stanimir (Stan) Jeremic’s eye, one evening during Slava Celebrations. It was love at first sight. Together they began their journey to Canada. The two were married in 1965 and had their first child, Milena while living in Germany, followed by Nenad shortly after immigrating to Canada. Anka often joked that she had an international family. Her eldest son Milenko was born in Yugoslavia. If you wanted something done, Anka was always there to support. A loving mother and always a cheerleader for her family, she provided advice, guidance, hugs and kindness especially to those she loved most. Anka was also blessed with a green thumb and always knew the tricks for growing more vegetables or how to make flowers bloom. Her garden was a work of art and reflective of her passion. Anka and Stan along with their family enjoyed many years travelling to their home in Florida. They were also blessed with many unique experiences having travelled through Europe, America, the Caribbean and South America. Anka lived a rich and enjoyable life full of fun and friendships around the world. Most will fondly remember Anka for her beautiful smile, her big heart, love of music, singing and dancing. Anka is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 59 years Stan. Much loved mother to her late son Milenko, Milena and Nenad (Nicole). Adoring grandmother to Micheal, Sasha, Meaghan (Mike), Julia (Zach) and Madison and great-grandmother to Sydney and Jager. Dear sister to her late siblings Nickola and Vidosava. Special thanks to the staff at the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, the Palliative Care team at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and to Mika and Honey for the care given to Anka in her final months. She will be greatly missed by all. Visitation will be held at Marshall Funeral Home, 10366 Yonge St, Richmond Hill, on Friday November 15, 2024 at 11am followed by Service at 12 noon and interment to follow at Aurora Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Arthritis Society Canada or to the charity of your choice.
