Arlene Mary Brown (née Grant) lived a life marked by resilience in the face of adversity but also her remarkably positive outlook, her boundless capacity for love, and her infectious sense of humour. Despite her health challenges, including Multiple Sclerosis and epilepsy, she greeted each day with a smile, spreading joy to all who crossed her path.
Born in Port Hope, Ontario, in June 1955 to Margaret (née Deegan) and Wallace Grant, Arlene’s passing on May 13th, 2024, at Extendicare Port Hope, leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her sister Marilyn Clayton (Mark), her children Kelsey Brown (Sean Begley) and Evan Brown, and her cherished grandchildren, Ewan and Isobel Begley. Arlene’s memory will also be treasured by her sister-in-law Barbara Coleman (Bruce), and her nieces and nephews, Cassy and Meredith Clayton, and Riley and Ian Coleman.
Arlene’s indomitable spirit shone through her advocacy work, for which she received the 2023 Ontario Senior Achievement Award. Her efforts were focused on improving care and resources for both staff and residents of Extendicare Port Hope. Additionally, she played a pivotal role in advocating for the construction of a new sidewalk on the north end of Rose Glen Road, exemplifying her commitment to her community.
To honour Arlene’s legacy of resilience and compassion, a visitation will be held at Ross Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, May 21st, from 4-7pm, followed by a mass at Our Lady of Mercy on Wednesday, May 22nd, at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Arlene’s name to the MS Society of Canada, a cause that was close to her heart.
