William (Bill) Wakeford – May 4, 1930 – September 17, 2024
Dad has fished his last sunset, closed the cottage door, and headed home.
Dad was a 45-year employee of GE in Peterborough, but his life was truly defined by his time spent on Gold Lake in the Kawartha Highlands. His adventures at the lake spanned almost 70 years before illness and mobility issues made visits too difficult. He was at his happiest tramping through the woods, exploring the backcountry by snowmobile, picking blueberries, reading quietly in his rocking chair, or trolling for the elusive lunker lake trout. The too-early loss of our mother Margaret (Peggy) Wakeford (Noyes) in 1994 left a gap that was never filled, but her memory was always there beside him.
Dad leaves a deep legacy in his family. His groan worthy dad jokes and his meticulous measure-15-times / cut-once approach to life will be missed by children Wendy Dyer (David), Dan Wakeford (Jhane Brasier), and Cindy Bartoli (Dan) plus a whole passel of grands and great-grands.
Dad was predeceased by his sister Winona Bartlett (Bill) and brothers Wes (Joyce) and Bruce (Liz), and Jack. He is survived by brothers Frank (the late Carol) and Joe (Linda), sister-in-law Alva, sister-in-law Martha Bentley (Doug), brother-in-law Ivan Bateman (the late Carol), and sister-in-law Lois Noyes (the late Roger).

A Celebration of Dad’s Life will be held on Thursday September 26, 3:00-5:00 PM at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road, Peterborough. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Kawartha Lakes Land Trust or the Parkinson Foundation would be appreciated.
The mic will be open for anyone with a memory to share, a bad joke to tell, or a song to sing.
