(June 8, 1937 – October 11, 2023)
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Muriel Foote (Lowry, McNalty) at Extendicare Peterborough. After a valiant fight with FTD, and with her family by her side, this amazing and beautiful lady took her last breath, and was finally at peace. Muriel lived her life with a deep faith in God and a fierce devotion to her loving family.
She leaves behind her grieving children: Luann Ford and Jack Roe; Gwen and Jim Parkes; Daniel and Bridget McNalty (North Carolina); her adored grandchildren Steven Ford (Nova Scotia); Jei and Daniel Parkes; Sean (Alex) and Riley McNalty (North Carolina), and her niece and best friend Judy Ellis.
Muriel was a devoted wife and lucky enough to have experienced two loves in her life: Vern McNalty, married for 43 years (d: Nov. 2, 1999) and Al Foote, married for 18 years (d: Oct. 12, 2022).
Muriel was born in Tweed to Earl and Gertrude Lowry. She is predeased by her parents and five siblings: Elva (Casey) Walden; Lloyd (Kay); Claude(Hazel); Freda (Ralph) Preston; Emerson (Cecile) and leaves her brother and sister, Phil (Doris) and Betty Curtin to mourn her passing. Muriel also leaves many nieces and nephews, and her step children Kim (Jennifer) Foote, Jackie (Rick) Burfield, Cheryl (Rob) Butcher, and their families.
Muriel worked at the Medical Centre for many years until her early retirement to care for Vern. She then volunteered at PRHC Gift Shop and drove for the Canadian Cancer Society.
She was a knitter extrordinaire, an artist, avid walker, and gardener who enjoyed the outdoors, especially at the lake. Muriel was tenacious, independent and always up for a challenge, from riding camels in Israel to snorkling the Great Barrier Reef. Muriel and Vern’s travels led them to Hawaii, USA, the Caribbean and the East and West coasts of Canada. Muriel and Al drove their camper from Newfoundland to Alaska and continued their adventures on cruises around the world with their friends and family.
Muriel lived her last two years at Extendicare (one year with Al), lovingly cared for by many angels especially, Dawn, Dennis, Cindy, Carrie, Tammy, Amy, Jane, and Dr. Spink, and many more.
Aquamation has taken place.
A memorial reception will be held at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road, Peterborough on Saturday, November 4, 2023, 2 to 4 pm.
