Kenneth Bruce of Peterborough passed away March 25, 2024 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, after a short illness, at the age of 87. Born in 1936 in Peterborough to Walter and Violet Bruce, Ken was predeceased by his wonderful wife of 50 years, Maxine Bruce (Pyche), who passed away in 2022.
Ken is survived by his children Kenneth J. Bruce (Christina), and Angela Hanwell (Robin). “Pa” will also be missed by his grandchildren Aaron and Elyse Hanwell; Liam and Grayson Bruce and Kaitlyn, Josh and Janelle Blanchard.
Ken will be remembered fondly for his unique sense of humour and his habit of making unexpected and hilarious comments. Ken was a true storyteller and he incorporated his humour into the recounting of a wide range of tales about interesting events and characters from his life.
Ken was solid and hardworking, making a career in industry, both as a weaver at Brinton Carpet in his younger years, then at GM Oshawa until his retirement. In retirement, Ken could often be found at Heron Landing golf course in Peterborough, draining long distance putts with the best of them. Golf in the Winter took place in Florida, where Ken and “Max” resided for many Winters, enjoying the weather and good company.
Ken and Maxine loved to travel and compiled an impressive list of destinations, including several trips to Europe and UK, South and Central America as well as Japan. Ken was an aficionado of classic movies as well as a history buff.
Ken was predeceased by 5 his brothers: Walter, Billy Bobby, Clifford and Harold, as well as his 2 sisters: Margaret and Jean. Ken will be interred at a private ceremony at Rosemount Memorial Gardens.
