Passed away peacefully at his home in Keene, Ontario on Monday, January 15, 2024 at the age of 71. John will be forever loved and missed by his wife, Linda (née Doris) and their children, Lori Anderson (Josh) and Cora St Pierre. John is reunited with his late son, Dan Kempt. Proud Grandpa/Papa of Abby, Josiah and Nathaniel Anderson and Sarah and Wesley St Pierre. Dear brother of Susan Livings (Tom), Bob Kempt (Elaine), Margaret Burrett (Phil), Marty Kempt (Karen), and Tom Kempt (Kim). Brother-in-law of Bill Doris (Janice), Rosemary Doris (Wade), Paul Doris, Pauline Heffernan (Gerald) and the late Pat Doris and Herb Doris. Predeceased by his parents, Harold Kempt and Madeleine (née Davidson) and in-laws, Joe and Stasia Doris. John will be remembered by his large extended family, nieces and nephews, and many friends.
John will be remembered for his love of the outdoors; he could be found most days out in the woods on the family farm. John was an active member of the Keene community and taught at North Shore Public School for 20 years. John was an avid baseball player, coach and fan.
The family would like to extend their thanks to longtime family physician Dr. Robert Neville; Dr. Kristen Smerdon and the oncology team at Lakeridge Oshawa. As well as Dr. Chris Day, Dr. Merrachi and their team at Sunnybrook; Dr. Salawu and his team from Princess Margaret. Also Dr. Toor from Mount Sinai and Peterborough’s Dr. Blake. Also special thanks to all of the St. Elizabeth nursing staff for their utmost care and compassion throughout John’s journey.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Ashburnham Funeral Home – 840 Armour Road, Peterborough. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Keene United Church – 30 North Street, Keene with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
