It is with sorrow and sadness we announce the passing of Joan McKinlay. She died peacefully in her 79th year at Hospice Peterborough on Friday, September 6th, 2024. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and dog, Bennie. Predeceased by her husband, Richard McKinlay, her parents, Leslie and Linda, and her brother, Bill Rogers. Joan’s greatest joy was her family, which included son, Rob McKinlay, daughter, Julie Steele (Dwayne), grandchildren, Derek Dodd (Shannon), Alec McKinlay, and Casey Dodd (Brooke), and great grandson, Lucas. Also, mom’s friend and travelling companion, Alex White and the many close relationships with nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mom was a proud member of Beta Sigma Phi local chapter Torchbearer Omega for over fifty years. This is where she embraced many long-lasting friendships with her sorority sisters. Joan’s family are grateful for the love and compassionate care provided by PRHC and Hospice Peterborough. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, September 21st, 2024 at Ashburnham Funeral Home – 840 Armour Road, Peterborough. Visitation from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, Service at 2:00 pm, and refreshments to follow. Donations in Joan’s memory may be made to Hospice Peterborough or Peterborough Humane Society by visiting www.ashburnhamfuneral.ca.
