Sadly, and unexpectedly, Jim left us on May 10, 2024 at the age of 77 at PRHC with family at his side. Jim was a hard-worker. He was also someone with a big heart especially for the underdog, those with 2 legs and those with 4. For years he volunteered with the Boy Scouts, watched out for those who might be headed for trouble, and helped people who had less. In later years he volunteered for SMART (The Smart Rescue for Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute, and Alaskan Husky) and cared for dogs that no one else wanted, those who were old and would not likely be adopted. Sometimes he spoke about the pain of losing so many animals that he cared about. He continued to care for them even when his own health was failing and it cost him pain and sparse energy. Jim worked at Viamede Resort, and was cook/kitchen manager for many years at the Miss Diana and later the Carousel restaurant. The results of his talent for both cooking and baking were enjoyed by many people both inside and outside of Peterborough, especially at The Carousel’s popular Sunday Buffet. He taught new cooks and encouraged others in their work and supported them in their family lives. He loved to rib people and those who worked with him enjoyed an atmosphere that was fun. Jim enjoyed drives in the country, eating out, and trips to Hiawatha to save a few pennies on gasoline. His unusual sense of humour will be remembered by many. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Joe and Stella Sheehan, brothers Gus, Carl (Eileen) and Bernard (Leona), sisters Mary Woodruff (Harvey), and Marg O’Brien (Joe), and foster brother Brian DeMarsh. He leaves behind his brother Gerard (Pat), and sisters Rose Anne, Lenore Cartlidge (Dave, deceased), Julie Craib (Barry), sister-in-law, Ella, many nieces and nephews, and best friend Alan Boyce and Dakota. Friends will be received at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Rd., Peterborough on Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 3:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM.
