Gerald (Jerry) Burns passed away peacefully in his 73rd year on May 13th, 2024.
Jerry will be forever loved and missed by his wife Susan, (nee Mailing) of 35 years, son Justin (Emily) and as Papa to Tristan and Brian Bennie. A very proud and loving brother, he will also be missed by his siblings, Joanne (Jim Devlin), Patricia (Doug Bellwood), Michael (Sharon), Doug (Joanne), Liz (Roy Crum), Brian, Sandy (Jim Ryall), Cheryl Ann (Howie Lynch), Bonnie and Lori.
Jerry, will also be truly missed as a loving son-in-law to Susan’s Mother Jean Mailing, and as an always caring, helpful and loving brother-in-law to sisters Cherry, Lesley (Don Mizen), Shirley (Ken Hunter), Leanne (Mike Jordan).
Jerry was predeceased by his parents Robert and Claire, Brother Gerrard, sister-in-law, Gina Newport and brother-in-law, Reid Sevigny. He is remembered for his love of westerns, his great humor and affection, and his valued role as an Uncle to his many nieces and nephews of both the Burns and Mailing families. Jerry grew up in Lindsay, Ontario and eventually found his favorite job as a Bus Driver, first in Whitby, then for the past eight years with the City of Peterborough. He was well known for his dedicated and customer friendly service. Jerry was not hard to like in his non-work life. He made many friends and was always available to lend a hand, or give a hand up, when needed. He was always quick with a laugh, a joke and even some gentle teasing. He was also a ‘bit’ stubborn and a lot ‘nosy’. Always curious to find out what was going on around him.
Jerry also had a nickname of “Knife” and became an ardent collector of knives as well as Western Movies. One of Jerry’s favorite trips was to “Tombstone”.
Jerry’s Funeral will take place on Monday, May 20th at Ashburnham Funeral Home, 840 Armour Road, Peterborough. Visitation at 1:00 pm, Service at 2:00 pm with light refreshments following the Service
Since Jerry was such a huge fan of Westerns, Susan has suggested those attending the Service would be welcomed to honor Jerry by wearing western attire. If you are so inclined, dust off those cowboy hats and boots and we will see you on May 20th. Yippee Ki-Yay!
In lieu of flowers and as a tribute to Jerry, donations to Nova’s Ark or Hospice Peterborough would be appreciated.
