Gerald “Gerry” Healey Obituary
While surrounded by his loving family, Gerry passed away peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, in his 64th year. Beloved husband of Elizabeth “Betsy” Jane (nee Joynt), of 38 years. Proud father of Sarah Carr (Michael). Expectant grandfather of baby boy Carr. Cherished son-in-law of Jane Joynt (the late Don). Dear brother of Theresa Latham (Jim), Michael Healey (Katheryn) and the late Cheryl Rutherford (Ian), and brother-in-law of Maryanne Nardi, Geoffrey Joynt (Dorothy) and Melissa Joynt (John Parkin). Lovingly remembered by his best friends Derrick and Sonia Huffman, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and all who knew him. He will be sadly missed by his favourite companions Henry, Millie and Alfie, and his boy Cavan will be waiting for Gerry with his wings. Gerry is also predeceased by his parents James “Jim” and Barbara (nee Phillips) Healey.
Gerry was an enthusiastic outdoorsman. In his early years he enjoyed snowmobiling and fishing for Muskie with his dad. As the years went on, his love for the outdoors grew. He loved taking his wife Betsy fishing, and spending time with his friends and co-workers fishing, deer hunting and ATV riding. Gerry was also an avid sportsman. Much to the chagrin of his son-in-law and friends, he loved the Toronto Maple Leafs. He also loved baseball, and coaching his daughter’s baseball team gave him a lot of joy. Gerry was known for having a sweet tooth, never turning down a butter tart, and would never miss going out every morning for Tim Horton’s Coffee. Gerry proudly served as a member of the OPP Security Division (OPGS) located at Queen’s Park, before joining OPG (Ontario Power Generation) Security and later becoming an integral part of the ERM (Emergency Response Maintainer) Team as an Industrial Firefighter until retirement. His love for life, the outdoors and his family will never be forgotten and his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those he loved.
In keeping with Gerry’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Road, on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. The funeral service will begin at 12:30 P.M. followed by a light luncheon and interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Douro. If desired and in memory of Gerry, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
