HENDERSON, Sandra Margaret (Nee, Parker).
It is with deep sadness that we inform you of Sandra’s peaceful passing on October 21st, 2023, at Andy’s House in Port Carling, ON surrounded by her loving family. Born January 5th in Toronto, ON. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Gladys Parker (Allen) and Percy Parker; and husband Robert F. Henderson. Survived by her three daughters, Patti, Susan (Joe Barbeito), Beth (Brian Webster) and her beloved Grandson, David Barbeito.
Mom was raised in Hamilton, ON until her high school years when her parents moved to Gravenhurst, ON. Mom attended Gravenhurst H.S. where she shared many fond memories of dancing with her friends and enjoying time at the family cottage by The Narrows on Lake Muskoka. Mom had lost both parents by the tender age of 18 and moved to Toronto for work as a Bell Canada operator, very appropriate given her love of the phone and her gift of the gab. Mom and dad’s life together began on a double date, bowling in Toronto and they quickly began a family. Mom was a fiercely devoted mother raising us with a strong moral compass and compassion for those less fortunate. Her kindness extended to volunteering her time teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) until she was widowed in 1978. Sandra eventually decided on Real Estate as a career that spanned many years until her retirement in 2017. A born real estate agent with a knack for seeing the possibilities of a house and working closely with her clients to provide them with a home. Mom also had an aptitude and appetite for bridge that began with dad and continued throughout her life. Other notable passions and pastimes were reading, sewing, cooking, bargain hunting, Jeopardy and of course, anything and anytime with family and friends. Most of all, Gigi loved her adventures with Grandson, David. Taking him to plays in the city, tobogganing, picnics at Toogood Pond and Bucks Green, Annual Christmas Sleigh Rides at Knox Farm and numerous trips to Muskoka. They were the apple of each other’s eye.
We are forever thankful to Andy’s House in Port Carling, Muskoka District HCCS, Hospice West Parry Sound, Sunnybrook Palliative Care Team and Lucy Laker.
The Henderson family is eternally grateful to Jack and Susan Skinner for the healing environment of The Rocks.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Andy’s House of Port Carling, Diabetes Canada, UHN Foundation or Sunnybrook Foundation.
In keeping with Mom’s wish, there will be a Celebration of Life, Spring 2024.
