After a sudden and heartbreaking diagnosis of acute myeloid leukaemia, Mary Ellen lost her battle on the night of Monday September 23, 2024. She passed in the West Parry Sound Health Centre, peacefully and surrounded by love.
Words can’t express how much she meant to us. From her amazing sense of humour, her laugh and a quick sarcastic remark, she was always the one you wanted to sit beside at any event.
After their move to Parry Sound, there was nothing she loved more than Moose Lodge. Whether it was watching the boats go by (and complaining that people should take a picture as they cruised by a little too slowly), watching the hummingbirds to simply sitting on the porch gazing over the lake and listening to the calls of the loons. She loved the sound of the trains because that always meant she was home.
Family and friend time at the cottage was a highlight. There were always activities on the go. She wouldn’t ever want to be a part of them but she always wanted to be on the sidelines. The kids on the trampoline, in the lake, tubing, riding around on the golf carts. She loved watching it all happen around her.
She had the opportunity to come back home for 11 days throughout her treatment and those days were a true blessing. A short reprieve from hospitals and monitors and tubes. At the end, there was nothing she wanted more than to be back sitting by the lake with her sweetie.
Now she’s an angel watching over the lake as the sun sets and listening to the trains echo over Little Otter. She’s home.
Mary Ellen is remembered by her husband of 50 years, Ken and her daughters Kristi (Kevin) and Kathy (Jason). She was a loving Nana to Shyanne, Cole and Kylie. Dear sister to Bill, Beth, and Peter.
Thank you all for the tremendous outpourings of love and support. We appreciate it beyond words. She was an amazing wife, mom, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, nana and friend to us all. We have been blessed to have had her in our lives and, as much as it hurts to say goodbye to her in this life, she will forever live on in us.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the West Parry Sound Health Centre as a heartfelt thank you for the amazing care and compassion Mary Ellen and her family received during her final days.
