March 02, 2024
Anne Thureson, loving wife of the late John Thureson, departed peacefully at home in her favourite chair; in exactly the way she wished, on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, age 84 years.
Daughter of the late Howard Nash, and Rosalie Stringer (nee: Jackson) and her husband Orville Stringer. Anne spent much of her youth on Squires Beach with her siblings Bob Stringer (Marg), Derek Stringer (Lynn), Kathy Stringer (Lorraine Campbell) and the late Joyce Gowland (nee: Stringer), and Norman Stringer. Anne was a caring mother to Wendy Noble (John), Gregory Fry (Debbie) and Lee Thureson. Dear grandmother to Adrien Berthier, Daniel Berthier, Hannah Fry, Chantal Fry, Skye Thureson and Dane Thureson. Great grandmother to Madeleine Berthier, Emmaline Berthier, Etienne Berthier, and Joseph Fry.
Though Anne is remembered as a somewhat studious person, she was also an energetic person that loved to skate and play baseball. Many of her peers from the ‘one-room’ schoolhouse would recall she batted a baseball so far that it was never found. Anne was well remembered for her come-as-you-are acceptance, refined taste in music, thought provoking discussions and sharing her love of beautiful tall ships. Entirely dutiful, she started her career at the Royal Bank and ended it as a bookkeeper at the Canadian Transport Tariff Bureau, until her retirement to Parry Sound in 1987. The most common term that comes up when talking about Anne is ‘matter-of-factly’. She was a well-read woman who not only listened intently, but listened intelligently. Quick as she was with well-informed advice or an objective opinion, she was much more too. Some of the highlights of her accomplishments would include studying opera at the Royal Conservatory, building a model of a ship she named ‘Norman’s Star’, designing and manufacturing her ‘Vintage’ Barbie clothes, and becoming an ordained minister for ‘Divine Metaphysics’… Come to think of it, she could do just about anything. While interviewing for the Royal bank, she confidently indicated she had a skill that she actually wasn’t familiar with, then she trained herself to do it. Never having carved wood, she thought she’d take a stab at it and created a 7-foot panel masterpiece of carved oak leaves. Borne of being frugal, she was an original DIYer who wired all the baseboard heaters at the family cottage herself. It’s an endless list that she was so admired for. She was highly regarded to her bio family, AA family and friends. Ahead of her time, she was a pioneer of capable working mothers. Equally as impressive as her talent was her honourable nature; always truthful–always accountable.
We are hoping that before being reunited with her beloved John, she meets her mother at the pearly gates; they look at each other and she asks, “You got a light?”
We invite you to join us for Anne’s Celebration of Life Service at Logan’s Funeral Home (81 James Street, Parry Sound) on Saturday, March 23rd at 11:00 A.M. Reception to follow.
Anne always found it sad that bouquets withered; we therefor request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to True North Aid, in honour of her best friend Betty George. May they be sharing stories now.
