John’s Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Paul Glaves, on November 5th, 2024, at the age of 43. John was born in Brantford, Ontario on July 31st, 1981 to Gerry and Germaine Glaves. He grew up in St. George, Ontario with his sister Sarah (Jason) Hill and brother Gerry (Desiree) Glaves. John met his wife, Mel, in 2001. They were married in 2010 and spent many of their happy and love-filled years together in Edmonton, Alberta, where they had two kids, Henry and Poppy.
John was known for his intelligence, his steadiness, his kindness and his humour. He completed his PhD in biochemistry at the University of Alberta in 2011, before working with the Government of Alberta in the Department of Forestry. John was Manager of Research Relationships at Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo, ON after moving back to Brantford in 2022. John loved hockey, and coaching the Brantford 99ers was a source of joy for him.
John will be deeply missed by his wife, kids, parents, siblings, parents-in-law, Lynn and Ken, his brother-in-law Kevin (Emily), his many nieces and nephews, his cousins, aunts and uncles, his many friends and teammates, his players and his colleagues.
Friends will be welcomed at the DWAYNE D. BUDGELL Funeral Home, 1105 Rest Acres Road, on Monday, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 11 am in the Funeral Home Chapel. John’s service will be livestreamed and will be available online starting at 10:50 am. In John’s memory, donations made to Hockey Fights Cancer for the U12 B/BB 99ers Hockey Team would be appreciated by the family. Please visit fundraisemyway.cancer.ca/ to make your donation directly.
