Nancy Wallace Obituary
Passed away peacefully at Chapman House Hospice on Saturday, November 9, 2024, after a long struggle with COPD. Born in Glasgow, Scotland on Tuesday, April 29, 1941, Agnes “Nancy” Gorman Wallace (nee McMeechan) of Owen Sound, was in her 84th year.
Predeceased by her parents William and Anne McMeechan, and by her loving husband Alexander Orr Wallace in 2017.
Nancy and Alex were married August 26, 1961, in Glasgow. In 1987, Nancy and Alex embarked on a new journey, immigrating to Canada. They settled in Burlington to be close to Alex’s family and their new careers. Nancy worked as an Executive Assistant at the Royal Botanical Gardens – but would be the first to tell you she knew nothing about plants. After retirement, Nancy and Alex moved to Wiarton and settled easily into their new life, enjoying the outdoors with their dogs. In 2014 Nancy and Alex moved to their condo in Owen Sound and loved living next to the water. Nancy was a talented handicraft artist, creating beautiful needlepoint art and knitting projects.
Nancy had been a resident of Owen Sound Gardens since 2021 and was thankful for the support she received from the staff there.
Since Alex’s passing, Nancy has been supported by many people, who’s help allowed Nancy to continue living in her home and retirement residence. Nancy was so grateful to the staff of Jeremy Woodley Care Services. Johanna, Shannon, Jeremy, Penny, Tanya, Rosalie, Michelle, Trinity, Val, Jennifer, Laurie and Rahel have all been invaluable members of Nancy’s care team, providing care, support and companionship and becoming friends along the way. These incredible people made sure that Nancy was not alone in the final days of her life.
Thank you to the staff and volunteers at Chapman House for providing Nancy comfort in her final days.
