Jim Hamilton Obituary
James “Jim” Wilson Cumming Hamilton passed away unexpectedly while travelling with his beloved sons on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the age of 76.
Devoted husband of the late Elizabeth “Betty” Hamilton (nee Fox). Proud father of Scott (Amanda) and Jim (Shannon). Cherished Pappy to Brooke, Amy and James. Dear brother of Fiona, and brother-in-law of Margaret (John), Mary (Brian) and John (Maureen). Loving uncle of Kellie, Claire, Laura, Stephanie, Craig, Jos and Andrew.
Predeceased by his mother, Helen Connelly Hamilton (Cumming), father Joseph Hamilton, and niece Alison.
After emigrating from Scotland in 1979, Jim worked hard as a machinist to support his young family. In 2000, Jim and Betty started their entrepreneurial career by building and operating Kelso Villa Retirement Home with their business partner, while making life-long friendships within the community. Jim was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing pool, travelling and sharing stories of life in Scotland, but nothing compared to the joy he created by spending time with his family and friends. He was easy to make conversation with, friendly and kind. Most memorable was his Scottish accent which he held on to his entire life.
To know Jim was to know his love and loyalty for family. He took great pride and enjoyment in the successes of his sons and grandchildren and was always close by his beloved wife for whatever she needed – accommodating her morning coffee run requests would be in the 1000’s if ever counted. When Betty passed just a short time ago, Jim’s heart was forever broken. May they now be together for eternity.
A funeral service and reception for Jim will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date.
