Ronald Beresford Heatley, an esteemed civil servant, passed away peacefully at The Court at Barrhaven retirement home on January 23, 2024, at 89. Born in Ottawa to British immigrants Arthur and Edna Heatley, Ronald was the youngest of two brothers.
A graduate with honors from Carleton University in Psychology and Sociology, Ronald dedicated 30 years to the Federal Government as an Economist and Social Analyst. In 1960, he married and raised a son, David. Later in life, Ronald welcomed a daughter-in-law, Heather, and two grandchildren, Savannah and Saxon.
Ronald’s diverse interests included physics, politics, literature, cinema, and music. Despite grappling with severe social anxiety, he remained a kind, generous, and engaging conversationalist, leaving a lasting impact on those few who knew him.
Ronald Beresford Heatley’s legacy is one of resilience, intellectual curiosity, and profound kindness. He will be remembered for enriching every conversation and leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched. May he rest in peace.
