Mary Menna (Lafreniere)
Mary passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on October 23, 2024 at the age of 93.
She was predeceased by her husband and best friend of 30 years, James Lafreniere. She is survived by daughters Margot (Kevin Scrim), Barbara (Allan Mackay), sons Blair (Francine), Tony, and stepsons Rob (Katherine) and Mark (Nathalie), and grandchildren, Erik, Nicole, Brandon, Mary Kate, Max, Sam, Frederique, Caroline, Troy, Quinn and Liam.
Mary was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt. She will be fondly remembered as a kind and compassionate person whose gentle smile brought warmth to us all. She taught at Woodroffe High School for 30 years and was loved and respected by her students. Mary was an accomplished pianist and sang in many choirs. She loved the arts and after retirement she studied Art History and Classical Music at Carleton University.
Mary and Jim enjoyed many years of travel throughout the world and visited over 30 countries. They spent their winters in Florida where they taught Line Dancing, enjoyed the opera and Blue Jays spring training, and Mary volunteered at the library.
Mary recently lived at the Bradley and subsequently the Red Oak Retirement Homes. There, she continued to enjoy Art History and Music. Her exercise classes and Line Dancing were the highlights of her days. She will be greatly missed by her families there.
