Katie Emma Williams Seymour
On the 1st of May, 2024 Katie Emma Williams Seymour passed away peacefully at Garry J. Armstrong Long Term Care Facility, Ottawa, Ontario. Born the 22nd of April, 1920 in Lac Seul, Ontario, she graced this earth for 104 years and 9 days. Katie was a bright light who blessed those around her with her ever-ready smile, joyful demeanour, kind wit, and gentle sense of humour.
Katie was the ninth of ten children born to Clara Fanney and Jabez Williams of Lac Seul, Ontario. She was pre-deceased by her nine siblings, Christopher, Charlotte Campbell (Joe), Victoria Garner (Wilbur), Arthur (Irene), George (Ida), Frank (Patricia), Charles (Martha), Hazel, and Flora. Also pre-deceased by a son, Mark, a nephew, Rob Seymour, a grandson, Shaun Mortimer, and her husband, Llyn Seymour.
In 1950 Katie married Horace Llewellyn (Llyn) Seymour on the 31st of December in Ottawa, Ontario. They had 3 children, Mark Llewellyn, born February 25, 1953 who died on October 25, 1966, Janet Valda Mortimer (Andrew) residing in West Jeddore, Nova Scotia, and Heather Ann Brennan (Robert) of Ottawa, Ontario.
She is survived by her two daughters, Janet (Andrew) and Heather (Robert), two grandsons, Devon Mortimer (Remika) and Patrick Brennan, and by many nieces and nephews, including Lillian Kusick (Edward), Gloria (Larry), Barbara Millar (Jim), Lynda Garner, Sally Young (Harvey), Susan Darlington (Jim), Linda Gilbert (Rod), David Bell (Sally), Gary Seymour( Mary), and Kevin Seymour (Greg).
Trained as an executive secretary, Katie started work in the Parliament of Canada House of Commons recording the Hansard debates. She was secretary to Paul Martin Senior in the House of Commons, for a number of years, worked for Dr. Dickson of the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax Nova Scotia for a time in the 1960’s and later worked for the RCMP in Ottawa.
Katie was a keen bridge player, loved to play and watch tennis, was a Beta Sigma Phi member, a volunteer with Newcomers/ Welcome Wagon for many years, and a volunteer for and Friend of the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa. She and her husband Llyn enjoyed living in Italy when Llyn’s work took them there in the mid 1980’s. They were happily married for 60 years.
Dearly loved by her family and friends, Katie will be missed.

A Celebration of Life for Katie will take place on Saturday September 21, 2024 at 2 pm at St. John the Evangelist Church, 124 Somerset Street West Ottawa, Ontario.
