Obituary of Kathleen (Kay) Hogan
Strong and independent until her last days, Kathleen (Kay) Mary Hogan (nee Williams) chose to end her days on a beautiful summer’s morning, following a brief but life-changing battle with pneumonia. Kay passed away on June 30, 2024 at the Ottawa General Hospital where her loving family had been maintaining a bedside vigil during the last week of her life.
Kathleen, daughter of the late Alfred (Alf) and Barbara Williams, was born on March 30th, 1927, in Cote St. Luc, Montreal, PQ, living with her large extended family including her brother William (Bill) (predeceased in 1998). Kay would later meet Michael, love of her life and husband of 55 years (predeceased 2007).
Kay was thankful for her long and full life. She and Michael had three children, Leslie, Peter (Debra Murphy), and Barbara (Uwe Foehring). They enjoyed a vibrant family life whether in a tent or an exotic locale, gathering happy memories and countless friends that Kay cherished forever. She cared deeply for her many aunts, in-laws, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and always had a story to share.
Kay’s grandchildren brought her great joy and pride. She couldn’t wait for news on how they were doing or what they were up to. Remembering her forever are Ryan (Jess), Matthew, Allysann, Vivianne (Owe Mahn), Greg (Maiya), Rebecca and her adored great-grandchildren Ollie, Maddie, Quinn, Elly, Coco, Hayden and Logan.
Kay was always wilful, self-reliant, engaged and always stylish! She loved business, especially finance and numbers, was an avid follower of politics and talk radio. Kay loved the challenge of working outside the home, learning new skills and furthering her independence. She was creative, a lover of lilac trees, daffodils and lavender, our many family pets, a committed volunteer, avid walker, swimmer and always ready to help others.
Kay’s eyesight declined in her later years. Despite the continued efforts of the Ottawa Eye Institute over the past 30 years, Kay’s failing vision eventually impacted all aspects of her life.
Until the end though, Kay never lost her love of shopping nor her passion for going out for a “burger and chips” or a hot chocolate and a good chat. We will miss you dearly Mom, but we know you are safe, at peace and dancing in the clouds with Dad!
At the request (orders!!) of Kathleen, there will be a private burial at Pinecrest Cemetery with lots of lavender and love.
To extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Eye Institute and the Ottawa Hospital for their exceptional care, we invite you to consider making a donation at: ohfoundation.ca/ways-to-give/
