It is with full and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Audrey Elsie Mactavish (nee Asbury). On August 20, 2024, Audrey passed at home surrounded by her loved ones in her 100th year. Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother (“G.G.”) Audrey will be dearly missed by her daughter Cheryl and son-in-law John, her son Steven and daughter-in-law Nancy, her grandchildren Michael (Catherine), Beverly (Tim), Lindsay (Dave) and Tracy (Sean). Her great-grandchildren Andrew, Ethan, Madison, William, Isla, Ava, James, Gavin and Nathan will always cherish their memories of G.G. Her niece Jo-ann and niece Margot (and family) will always keep her memory close. She was an “adopted” grandma (“Grams”) to many in our extended family and to friends who will also miss her.
It is our fervent prayer that Mom will once again lovingly embrace her great-granddaughter Audrey and her sisters Vera and Dodie.
Audrey was a brave survivor of life’s sometimes cruel and unfair challenges. But, behind her magnetic smile, you’d never know. As a consequence of her lived experience, she taught us about resilience, hard work, optimism, unconditional love, and the power of an authentic hug.
Audrey’s family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Jenn Brodeur and the Palliative Care Team, in addition to the many nurses and personal support workers who all cared for Mom with great compassion over the last year. Further, the family is incredibly grateful to Dr. Brendan Quinn, Dr. Shawn Aaron, Dr. Lina Shoppoff and Dr. Judy Moss for their many years of special care and attention.
The funeral will take place at Annunciation of the Lord Parish at 2414 Ogilvie Rd, Gloucester, ON, on September 13, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. and a luncheon in the church hall afterwards.
Audrey’s love of dogs was well known to everyone so, if desired, donations may be made in her memory to the Ottawa Humane Society or Ottawa Therapy Dogs. Otherwise, donations to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation would be welcomed.
