It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many, Ashok Sahgal, who transitioned to his heavenly home at the age of 73 on November 13th, 2023.
He was the dear, loving husband of Manisha (nee Vyas) for over 48 years. Cherished father to Oshima (late Hunsdeep), Neil and Anusha (Justin). Loving Nana to his granddaughter Neela and grandson Téo Jasper. Dad loved his grandkids more than anything in this world, they were his pride and joy.
Dad was born on January 16, 1950 in Delhi- India to late Bal Rai and late Vidyavati Sahgal (nee Kapoor). He grew up in the small town of Shakti Nagar where he enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica, singing, and riding on his scooter. He always excelled academically and graduated from the prestigious India Institute of Technology in 1972. He was the youngest of three children. He will be dearly missed by his sister Swaran Khurana (late Shashi Bhushan) as well as all his nephews and nieces, who he considered to be his own children. He was predeceased by his brother Basant (Kusum) who he looked up to considerably.
Dad came to Canada in 1973 to study at the University of Ottawa where he graduated with an Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering. Around this time he met many of his life-long friends as well as our beautiful mother, Manisha. They got married on September 6, 1975 in Ottawa’s civil court. Dad will be greatly missed by his mother-in-law Rama Vyas (late Prabashankar), his sisters in-law Tilusha and Elash, his brothers in-law Manoj (Mina) and Kanesh (Navine), and all his nephews and nieces.
There was nothing that Dad loved more than being with family and friends. He had a kind, gentle and very generous heart, always blessing those in need. Anyone that knows Dad can attest to his witty sense of humor, his love for food & cooking, and his passion for music, especially Bob Dylan and Jagjit Singh.
While we will miss you terribly, Dad, we know you are happy to be reunited in paradise with those you loved and missed so dearly. 0m Shanti
In celebration of Dad’s life, family and friends are invited to join us at Heritage Funeral Complex 1250 Trim Road, Orleans on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. Visitation will begin at 11:00am with a Celebration of Life service to follow 11:30am to 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
