In Memory of Arthur Lloyd Thomas
03/11/2023
It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden unexpected death of our precious father, grandfather and great-grandfather who passed to his heavenly home quietly at the age of 86 years 11 months on November 3rd in hospital with family by his side.
He was the dear, loving husband of Gail (predeceased 2021) for over 62 years. Treasured father to Peter (Denise), John (predeceased) and Sharon (Alan). Loving Poppy to grandsons Brad (Taryn) and Matt (Sara). Blessed with great-grandsons Rory and Rowan and great-granddaughters Maeve and Isla. Dad loved all the kids dearly, grand and great, and his heart melted every time he saw the little ones.
Dad was born in December 1936 in Deer Lake, Newfoundland to Maxwell and Mae Thomas (nee White). He grew up in the small town of King’s Point where he enjoyed life fishing, hunting and working in the woods. He was the eldest of 8 children. He will be dearly missed by his sisters Queen (Frank predeceased), Maxine (Andy) and Judy (Brian) and brothers Clyde (Ruth Ann) and Rick (Doreen). He was predeceased by sisters and brothers-in-law Marilyn (Alton) and Pearl (Rod). He will also be missed by sister-in-law Beverly (Mom’s sister) in Kingston.
Coming from a large family, Dad will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews in Newfoundland, Alberta, Ottawa and Kingston.
Dad joined the RCAF in 1956 and later posted to Ottawa where he eventually met Mom and they were married. Dad left the RCAF in 1961 and worked for CBNRC (CSE) until 1966. He then made his final career move to CBC-Radio Canada International (Ottawa Shortwave Monitoring Station) where he remained until retirement at age 65. Dad loved all his jobs and often shared fond memories of the people he worked with.
Dad stayed up to date on all current events. He loved to read as proven by the huge library of books he had ranging from ancient history to theological writings. He had a remarkable memory and right up until he passed, he still had the ability to recite poems, stories and songs that he learned throughout his childhood.
Dad loved to be with family and friends. He had a kind & generous heart, always blessing those in need. Dad was strong in his faith and never missed a day praying for family & friends. He was a long-time member of Community Pentecostal Church where he served in many capacities through the years. Dad treasured the friendships he & Mom made during those times.
While we will miss you terribly, we know you are safe in the arms of Jesus and will see you again in heaven!
Visitation and service will be held at Community Pentecostal Church 1825 St. Joseph Blvd. in Orleans on Monday, November 13th. Visitation will begin at 10:30am with Service at 11:30am. A private internment will take place at Dale’s Cemetery in Cumberland immediately following the service.
