It is with heavy hearts and a great sense of loss that we announce the peaceful passing of Martie Johnson who at the age of 91, passed away at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on October 26, 2024.
Martie is the oldest of five children, born January 24, 1933 in Shaunavon Saskatchewan to Blake and Annie Franklin.
Martie is the beloved mother of Blake Johnson and his wife Roberta, Sandra Clarke and her husband Paul and Jim Purvis. Cherished grandma of Jamie-Lee Johnson (A.J.), Wesley Johnson (Kimberly), Courtney Toner (Nicole), and Hailey Toner, Trevor (Rachel), Caitlin and Zoe (Garth). Great-grandma of Casey, Brady, Austin, Hadley, Grayson and Charlie. Survived by her dear sister Joan Pogue and predeceased by her siblings Winston Franklin, Duffy Franklin, and Alice McClenaghan. Martie will be fondly remembered by her nephew Lorne McClenaghan. Martie’s family is many and widely spread, they have all held a special place in her heart, as has her best friend Molly Lochan who spoke with her every evening. Martie will be remembered fondly and missed deeply by her extended family and many friends.
Martie loved to be outside enjoying the sun. Be it walks in the park, picnics with family and friends, holidays in the south, or enjoying a cocktail on a patio. She loved living in Uptown Toronto where she often took long walks in her neighbourhood along Yonge Street where she became friends on a first name basis with many of the merchants. Martie made friends easily, she was very sociable and thoroughly enjoyed the company of others. More than anything Martie loved to be surrounded by family and friends no matter the occasion.
Her last years were spent at Extendicare Oshawa. The Family extends its heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful care and compassion she received and the many new friends she made. All of whom brought joy and comfort to Martie throughout her stay.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 12-1 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home (124 King St. E., Oshawa). A Memorial Service will follow in the Chapel at 1 p.m.
