Wiggers, Hendrikus ‘Henny’
Passed away peacefully with his family near on December 5, 2024 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.
Henny is predeceased by his wife Mia and survived by his wife Elizabeth.
Beloved father of Robert (Michèle), John (Donna) and Connie Rechanicz (John).
Step father of Jeffery Ross (Kristyne) and Jennifer Hamilton (Marcus).
Proud Opa of Josh, Caitlin (Matt), Matthew, Jordan†, Colin, Christine, Matthias, Samuel and Gabriel.
Great Opa to James & Ira.
Henny was one of eleven children, Truus†, John†, Henry†, Bernie, Bill, Ann†, Al†, Mia, Joanne and Andy.
He was very supportive of his family growing up.
As an early-riser youngster, one such caring gesture that he did was to keep the wood-stove fire going to keep his family warm. In his youth he was also supportive in helping Canadian soldiers and others during the war years and beyond.
He would talk to family and others about how challenging those times were.
His passion for woodworking began at a young age and would be carried throughout his life.
He enjoyed to show what was possible to make from what someone would just burn.
He became a cabinet maker learning from his elder family members particularly from an uncle who would encourage him to master these skills by telling him ‘You are a born cabinet maker!’
Henny was 32 yrs old when he, his wife Mia and their two sons immigrated to Canada.
Coming to Canada he and his family received support of family and he reciprocated.
His oldest brother was pleased to have him here to be of assistant to his new business, Wiggers Custom Furniture.
He was sought for his skills when applying for a job at Whitby Boat Works which he accepted only under the
condition that they hire his youngest brother Andre too. Some years later a new company came from that from
Andy, Wiggers Custom Yachts.
His children remember fondly of all the great memories growing up with their parents going out on outings,
camping and spending time enjoying each other’s company. He loved to make small wooden pieces of workmanships
to sell at the local flea markets with his daughter and later on with his wife, Elizabeth.
Henny always enjoyed keeping busy doing other activities such as bike rides, walks and time at the OSCC for lunches and activities with fellow seniors and staff.
He will be lovingly remembered by many family and friends in North America and Europe. He will always be fondly remembered as our Cookie Monster.
Please join with the family at Armstrong Funeral Home for A Celebration of Henny’s Life on Tuesday December 10th, 2024 at 11am in the Chapel. Visitation will be held from 10am until 11am prior to the service. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorial donations to the OSCC or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
