Mona Rochefort Obituary
My wonderful wife, our amazing mother, grand-mother, great-grandmother Mona Rochefort (Deslaunais) passed away on Sunday, July 14th in her ninetieth year. She was born in Field, Ontario and married June 1st, 1953. She leaves behind her husband Paul, her children Denis (Suzanne), Jean-Paul, Guy (Carol) Louise (Robert), Francine (Doug) and Luc (Nathalie); her grand-children Richard, Catherine, Carolyn, Justin, Robert, Matthew, Jessica, Phillip, Olivia, Stéphane and Zacharie; her great-grandchildren Samuel, Royce, Asya, Nathan, Ava, Ethan, Charlotte, Noah and Cole. Mona is pre-deceased by her parents Paul and Georgette (Cataford) and sisters Yvette (Albert), Aline (Bennie) Gisèle (Metro), and brothers Jacques (Rachel) and Yvan (Polly). She is survived by her sister Rachel Dawson (Dave), brother-in-law Metro and sister-in-law Rachel(Paquette).
She led a very active life and enjoyed her family, having many big meals where she is remembered for her seapie and beans, turkey dinners, prime rib roast beef. She loved those family gatherings and made sure everyone was well fed. At Parish Picnics she was known for her constant good humour and amazing baked beans. She was a great traveler and dad who did not like it so much would always say “You go”; her nickname became “Hugo”. Among her travels she went to London England, Paris France, Rome, San Francisco, Las Vegas, many trips to Florida, a few trips to visit her son in Spain, as well as many other places across Canada. She loved reading, knitting and crochet, cards and Bingo. Her greatest love was dancing with dad which she did until the time she entered the hospital. She loved the cottage in Kipawa where they went for 50 years. During the early years you could see her catching pickerel while dad baited her hook after every cast. She loved the Kipawa choir when attending mass at Our Lady of the Lake. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League and participated in many church activities at St Thomas D’Aquin parish in Astorville. Mona was a reader, a, communion minister, and served with a group of ladies doing many funeral luncheons. She remembered everyone’s birthday and never missed sending a card to her family and friends. She lived in Astorville for 66 years before moving to Empire Living for the last few years. Thank you for help received at Empire Living. Many thanks for the wonderful care she received at North Bay Regional Hospital with special thanks to Dr. Gauthier and other physicians, all the wonderful nurses and the PSW’s who assisted her. Mona was a great wife, mother, grand-mother, great-grand-mother and friend. We will miss her so much.
