Gaetan Proulx Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gaetan (Guy) Rémi Joseph Proulx, wish to announce his passing in the early hours of January 18, 2024, at North Bay Regional Health Center. Though sudden, he passed peacefully and surrounded by family. Guy was 74.
He will be missed dearly by his children, Kim (Chris), Jeff (Kristen), Elizabeth (Matt), Lisa, Sarah, Terry along with countless others who called him dad. He was a loving grandfather to Ella, Cole, Adalyn, and Aldeo. brother to Francine, Phil, Noël, Peter, and André (predeceased).
Guy was loved for his sense of humour; he made us laugh until his final moments and stories of him will continue to make us laugh for years to come. Guy had a loving heart and would give anything to anyone who asked.
Guy had a long career as a chef; he was a manager of the KFC in North Bay and opened the KFC in Sturgeon Falls: our childhoods were fraught with ugly touques, red and white garage siding and the constant reminder of our dad’s education at the “College of Chicken Knowledge”. He transitioned to the ONR where he fed dozens of hungry lads. As a young family man, Guy’s Upholstery side business garnered the respect of the community. His children spent much time tumbling around the back of an upholstery van, having their pant legs sewn together, and being told they will lose their eyes if they play with the compressor. After his retirement, he enjoyed playing his electric guitar, volunteering at the church, and meeting up with the gang at the McDonald’s on Algonquin for a cup of coffee every morning.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 1 pm at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Bay. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 from 2 until 4 at St. Brice’s Church on Cassells St. in North Bay. All are welcome to attend.
En lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or to St. Brice’s Church, who have donated their time and effort for his celebration of life.
We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude’s to the nursing staff at NBRHC on the evening and night shift of January 17/18. Your compassion and patience did not go unnoticed, and we thank you for making Guy’s last moments peaceful and comfortable.
