The family is saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Fern at the Mattawa Hospital, surrounded by his loving family on October 5, 2023, at the age of 73 years. Beloved husband to Rita (nee Huard) Rockburn. Loving father to Cindy Quirt (Steve), and Marc Rockburn (Tina). Cherished grandfather to Lindsay (Cody), Lauren, Ethan and Dawson, great grandfather to Bailor and Charlotte. Fern was predeceased by his parents Harry and Jacqueline (nee Duhaime) Rockburn and his brothers Camile (Lynda-deceased), Norm (Diane-surviving), and Arnel (Debbie (surviving). Fern enjoyed a long career with the Ministry of Transportation, but his real passion was fishing, hunting, and trapping. He insured these skills were handed down to the next generation of his family. Fern became a very well-known firearms and hunting instructor in the area with an emphasis of safety and stewardship amongst new and old hunters.
A Memorial Mass will be conducted at St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church (241- 2ndStreet Mattawa, Ontario) on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 11 a.m. Donations are suggested to the Mattawa Hospital and would be gratefully acknowledged by Fern’s family.
The family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses and staff in Sudbury and Mattawa for the outstanding care and compassion towards Fern with a special thank you to Dr. Sathish Gopalakrishnan of the Sudbury Cancer Centre. Your efforts will always be appreciated and not forgotten.
