Obituary
HOLLAND, Doreen – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Doreen Holland (nee Connell) on April 29, 2024, at the age of 97. We find solace in knowing that she is now at peace and reunited in Heaven with our father, Gordon George ‘Gord’ Holland (1984). Born and raised in Niagara Falls, Doreen was the eldest child of William ‘Bill’ Connell (1967) and Sarah Connell (2005) and beloved mother of Marilyn Fuller (Bob), Carol Holland and David Holland. She is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews, and was predeceased by her younger brothers Bill ‘Bub’ Connell (1990) and Jim Connell (2010). Doreen graduated as a registered nurse from the Mack School of Nursing in St. Catharines in 1948. Her nursing career took her to Victoria, BC; Manhattan, New York–where she became a surgical nurse; and back to Niagara Falls, where she worked as the occupational health nurse at Cyanamid for decades. She retired in 1989. Doreen was a devoted daughter, wife, and mother who always thought of others before herself. We will always remember her unwavering sweet disposition and remarkable strength. Doreen and Gord took their three children on numerous family vacations across Canada and the United States, creating many wonderful memories. In her late forties, she convinced Gord to take up golf with her. They enjoyed hours of fun together on the golf course, and after retirement, she actively enjoyed the sport with friends and family until the age of 89. Friends are invited to join the family at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls, visiting Friday May 3, 2024 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. A Funeral Service in celebration of her life will be held at 12:30 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Stamford Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
