TIMSANS, Ausma – With sadness, we announce the death of Ausma Timsans on Jun 12, 2024, at the age of 92.
Ausma was married to the late Stan Timsans and is the mother of Inese Hill (Steve Woodburn), Peter Timsans (Ilze Lacgalve), and grandmother of Matthew Hill (Becky Yerves) and Laura Hill (Taylor Dowker). Also survived by her younger sister Vizma Lazdans.
Ausma was born in Latvia and was a refugee after the Second World War, eventually immigrating to the U.S. and later settling in Canada, living in Niagara Falls for over 60 years. She was an active member of the local Latvian community, teaching in the Saturday morning Latvian school, and singing in the Daugavas Vanagu choir.
Ausma had an energy and wit that was slow to fade as she aged. She was very independent, and after the passing of her husband, did everything she could to remain in her beautiful and peaceful home, where she enjoyed sitting outside and enjoying her garden. While advised against it, she could be seen at the age of 90, still gathering leaves at her yard and shovelling snow in her driveway. When her affliction with Alzheimer’s progressed to a stage where she needed daily care, she moved to Kristus Darzs Latvian Home in Woodbridge where she received excellent and compassionate care.
Ausma was a loving and attentive mother and grandmother, who will be missed, but never forgotten.
Funeral Service for Ausma will be held at Morse & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, June 20th, 2024 at 11:30 am. Interment to follow at Lundy’s Lane Cemetery.
For those who wish, and memorial donation may be made to the Kristus Darzs Latvian Foundation (kdlatvianhome.com/donate/)
