In Loving Memory of Michelle Catherine Hume (O’Connor)
1975-2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce Michelle’s sudden passing on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
Michelle was a beacon of love and kindness, a loving wife, devoted mother, daughter, sister and friend to all those whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Carl Hume and her three children: Liam, Connor and Moira. Michelle was the cherished daughter of Louise (Lecoupe) O’Connor and Terry O’Connor (Predeceased) and sister of Jeff O’Connor (Rhonda Boudreau). She was the adored daughter of Debbie and Jim Buhler, sister of Crystal Buhler and James Lund.
Michelle graduated from Ottawa’s École Secondaire De La Salle (music program) and obtained a Science Degree (Chemistry) from L’Université Laurentienne de Sudbury.
Michelle had a passion for diving and any piece of gear that was pink! Having recently achieved her rescue diver certification, she was also the face and the heart of Dive Source where she loved to work and always had the biggest smile anytime anyone walked in.
She loved animals, and was a co-team leader with Therapeutic Paws of Canada. She turned this love to helping children face difficult situations. She and her trained and accredited support dog, Darcy, travelled to schools, hospitals and courts of justice, when needed, to offer their calming help.
In her leisure time, Michelle met with her quilting group to produce beautiful quilts that she gave to family members and friends.
Michelle will be missed by a community that admired her accomplishments and talents, her pride in her French Canadian heritage, her zest for life and her generous spirit. Her absence leaves a sad void that cannot be filled and her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew her.
Her legacy of warmth, many friendships and compassion will continue to inspire us. As we bid her farewell, we take comfort in knowing that her light will guide us in the days to come.
A small private memorial with Michelle’s family will be held at the Newcastle funeral home, followed by a Celebration of Life Saturday August 3rd; details to follow.
