SCHMIDT, John Reinhardt
Our beloved John slipped away on the evening of October 16th, 2024, in his 66th year after a yearlong battle with ALS.
A son, a brother, a cousin, a friend and a colleague, he will be dearly missed by so many people. He is survived by his mother, Virginia, his brothers, Kim and Mark, and his sister-in-law, Regis (Mark). He is predeceased by his father, Dr. Peter Schmidt. He is remembered fondly by his many Schmidt cousins and uncle and by his Hagen cousins. He will be sorely missed by his longstanding and dear friend, Darlene. John worked in radio for his entire career, fulfilling his childhood love affair with the airwaves. He was with MZ Media (New Classical FM) for over 25 years, and he leaves behind a wonderful group of colleagues who provided support and caring over the past year.
John faced a formidable challenge with ALS, and he met it with courage and dignity. He maintained his interest in other people’s lives and needs, even as his own situation became increasingly difficult. He never lost his humour or his sense of delight in the small things. He never forgot to be kind. And he will remain in our hearts forever.
We wish to thank all of the health care workers and professionals who helped John, especially the ALS team at Sunnybrook Hospital, the PSWs who provided care in the home, and the palliative care team at Sunnybrook.
Relatives and friends are invited for a memorial time of visitation on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 23 Church Street, New Hamburg, Ontario from 10:00–11:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Tanya Varner to officiate. Interment will take place at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Kitchener, Ontario.
