DOBNEY, JAMES LESLIE

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James (Jim) Leslie Dobney, who left us peacefully at Hospice Wellington, Guelph, just shy of his 92nd birthday.
Born on October 14, 1932, in Palmerston, Ontario. Jim lived a life full of love, hard work, and dedication to his family and community. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Yvonne Dobney, in 2020, and his dear companion, Charlie Schiedel, in 2022.
Jim is lovingly remembered by his children Bill Dobney (Dianne), Heather Fletcher (Larry), and Tim Dobney (Sherry). He was a proud grandfather to Lesley (Tony), Robin (Garrett), Karen (Jeremy), Jennifer (Scott), Lisa (Brian), Mitchell (Danah) and Allison (Matt) and a cherished great-grandfather to 12 great-grandchildren
As a longtime resident of New Hamburg and the Morningside community, Jim was an active and proud member of the Wilmont Seniors Woodworking Centre, where his work was admired by many. Known for his tireless energy, hardworking nature, and willingness to take on any challenge, Jim could often be found tending to his vegetable garden with the Morningside Garden Club. Anyone who knew him appreciated his tenacity and willingness to lend a hand.
He spent many mornings with friends at the McDonald’s Coffee Club and his evenings supporting the New Hamburg Firebirds hockey team.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit and craftsmanship will live on in the hearts and homes of those he touched throughout his remarkable life.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Amberlea Presbyterian Church, 1820 Whites Rd N, Pickering on Thursday September 12, 2024 at 11:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations to MS Society or Hospice Wellington in Guelph would be greatly appreciated.
