GERBER: Ada (nee Schlegel) – of New Hamburg in her 90th year, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 5, 2024, at the Stratford General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Beloved wife of the late Howard Gerber who predeceased her August 30, 2023. Loving mother of Myron and Joanne Gerber, Shirley and John Brenneman and Paul and Monique Gerber. Proud and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother of Dan (Meghan) Gerber, Holly (Ben) Parks and their children Warren and Isaac; Kathy (Jay) Cochran and their children Kacey and Kip; Andrea (Kyle) McFarlane and their children Charlotte, Ruby, Violet, and April; Russell Brenneman (Samantha Lindner), Natalie (Matt) Jantzi and their children Hazel and Hailey; Zac Halliday. Dearly missed by her brother Merv (Karen) Schlegel, brothers-in-law Sam Wagler, Raymond Ruby (Shirley Roth), sisters-in-law Audrey (Harold) Bender, Carol (Irvin) Wagler and by many nieces, nephews and by dear friends Sue and Rick Erb.
Ada is predeceased by her parents Ezra and Violet Schlegel, mother and father-in-law Emanuel and Clara Ann Gerber, siblings Velma Schlegel, Elda Wagler and Norma Ruby brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Calvin (Marion) Gerber, Willard (Gladys) Gerber, Beulah (Henry) Ruby, Margaret (Roy) Ruby, Inez (Oliver) Ramseyer, Ellen (Elton) Leis, Helen (Lester) Yantzi and Nancy, great-granddaughter Noelle Parks
Ada was a very active member of Cassel Mennonite Church. Ada and Howard enjoyed volunteering together at the Thrift store and farmed together for many years. She also enjoyed volunteering at Nithview in the tearoom, and spending time quilting.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg, on Friday August 9, 2024, from 2–4 & 6–8. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the East Zorra Mennonite Church16th Line at 11:00 a.m. with interment prior in the church cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Pastors Harold Schlegel and Josh Martin to officiate.
