Wilma Runia (nee Wijtske Vandenberg), 79, of Ottawa, Ontario, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, Sunday, October 6, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and inspiration.
Born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Wilma immigrated to Canada in 1957 to Burlington, Ontario, where she met Peter. In 1967, Peter and Wilma were married and moved to Ottawa where they built a beautiful life and family together.
A devoted member of her Church community, she touched the lives of many through her unwavering faith and service. Wilma was a passionate reader and an avid traveler, always seeking new adventures and experiences.
Above all, Wilma cherished her role as an Oma. Her eight grandchildren, Tyler, Evan, Alexander, Marina, Lauren, Christopher, Leah and Julia, were her pride and joy. She found endless happiness in their laughter and accomplishments.
She is survived by her loving children; Michael and Suzie (Shillington), Kevin and Eleni (Livadiotis), and Jennifer and Gord (Handley), her siblings Hein (Pam) and Caroline (Richard), and brother-in-law John, her niece Michelle, and her nephew Andrew.
Wilma is predeceased by her husband Peter, her parents George and Cora Vandenberg, and her sister Ann Blakely.
Wilma will be remembered for her warmth and kindness. A celebration of Wilma’s life will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Calvin Christian Reformed Church at 1475 Merivale Road, Nepean, Ontario. A reception will follow in the church’s Fellowship Hall.
