After a challenging and courageous journey, Jocelyn passed away peacefully Friday July 19, 2024, aged 17 years old, having lived each and every day of her life with joy and to the fullest. Deeply loved daughter to Daddy and Mommy (Sheldon Butt and Amanda Black). Inspiring and fun-loving big sister to her brother Spencer. Much loved granddaughter to William and Glenda Butt, Heather McDowall and David Black (Kerri Timoffee). Survived by her aunts and uncles, Darian Butt (Audrey Tan), Davin Butt (Sarah Baptist), Allison Black (Julius Liptak) and Annesley Black (Robin Hoffman); cousins Aaralynn and Thomas Butt, Ollie Liptak and Bodo Black.
And importantly, Jocelyn was so very loved by her amazing friends. Jocelyn’s friends were so meaningful to her and were her rock. These deep friendships were unwavering in supporting her through her life and lifted her up, just as her thoughtfulness and love lifted them. She will be dearly missed by this group of remarkable young women who will carry Jocelyn’s kind spirit forward with them forever.
Jocelyn was blessed with naturally curly brown hair, a beautiful smile, and dancing big brown eyes. In those eyes there was always a twinkle; a spark of an idea for some new fun to be had with friends or family. An organizer and planner extraordinaire, she was always working on the next gathering or adventure – from gingerbread parties to cottage weekends with friends. Jocelyn was always excited for family vacations, camping and road trips, which are times together that her family will treasure forever. Jocelyn was a leader and driven in so many ways including being a skilled canoeing instructor, certified lifeguard, talented pianist, competitive basketball player, camp counsellor, organizer for her school’s Relay For Life cancer fundraiser, and recent Ontario Scholar high school graduate. The courage and perseverance she demonstrated in recent years causes one to reflect and place into perspective ones’ own life difficulties. Jocelyn was a beautiful and positive soul who always put others before herself. She left an indelible mark on her close friends and family, and we are all the better for it.
Details for visitation and Celebration of Life will be provided at a later time.
The family wishes to extend deep thanks to her cherished friends who supported Jocelyn all through her challenging journey. As well, the family wishes to thank Nepean High School and Camp Oconto for supporting Jocelyn in achieving her goals and living out her passions. Finally, the family wishes to thank the professionals at CHEO and Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice for their compassion and care.
Those wishing to do so may make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.
