Hicks; Ray Farnham
Passed away surrounded by the love of his family on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the Lennox & Addington County General Hospital. Forever remembered and loved by his wife Barbara (nee Denison) with whom he shared 71 years. Ray will be held in the hearts of his children Kevin (Peggy) Hicks, late Wade Hicks, Patti (Rob) Scott, Jamie (Angela) Hicks, Lori (Mark Jaynes) Toth and Vicki Willow. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren Jaylene, Jennifer (Ryan), Robert (Amanda), Tasha (Adam), Maggie (Mark), Samantha (Adam), Michael (Chrissy), Richard, Evan (Chelsea), Jason (Mackenna) and many great grandchildren. Loved by his brother Robert Hicks (Mary Esther) and his two nieces. Predeceased by his parents James and Margaret.
Ray was born and raised on the Hicks family farm on the river road where he had many adventures (shenanigans) growing up with his brother and long time friends. He met and married the love of his life Barbara in 1953 and headed off to Rochester, New York with his new bride where he started his family and worked at Ontario Plastics before serving 2 years in the Unites States Armed Forces and spent the remainder of his time there at Bausch Lombe, apprenticing as a tool and die maker and engineer. Eight years later they returned to Canada to settle down on the family farm to raise their six children. He continued his education as he worked as Technical Engineer at Alcan in Kingston for 30 years, then finished his career as a private consultant for 10 more years. He had many exciting tales to tell of his travels around the world for his work and enjoyed many trips with Barbara, family and good friends. He also proudly served for many years as a member of the Canadian Army Reserve.
His strength, support and understanding was the foundation of the beautiful life he built. He touched the lives of all who knew him in ways no other could. He was a loving and devoted husband, a long time and valued friend to many, the worlds greatest father and a proud grandfather to many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He enjoyed many summers at Buckshot Lake where he shared a lifetime of memories with all his favorite people.
His many hobbies and talents included fishing, hunting, farming, gardening, building and fixing things (if it was broken it could be fixed) and took great pride in his elaborate annual Christmas display admired by all his river road neighbors.
No matter what life threw his way he always kept his sense of humour and positive attitude. Most of all he loved his time with family and friends and filled our lives with love and laughter. He was very grateful for every minute of every day and lived his best life.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 11, 2024 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and for 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the Wartman Funeral Home Napanee.
